11/12/2010 Enchanted Mountain

Needing a break from San Antonio and the rush of our schedule changes.. we went out of town for a scenic view of a part of Fredericksburg we've not seen before.   ENCHANTED MOUNTAIN.   For my friends in GA it is Stone Mountain in Texas and TEXAS SIZE!   Although Stone Mountain is bigger only because erosion has exposed a lot of it's rock, Enchanted Mountain still remains huge under the ground.   If you are visiting Fredericksburg, TX put this on your tour map!
Sidney walked all 5 miles.   1 mile to the summit, and the 4 mile loop around the mountain.   Avery got to ride his wagon most of the way.

Coffee Break

Not much I can say about this.  Sidney does enjoy coffee with Grandma Clarke.

The Challenges of a 3 Year Old

Getting Sidney up from her nap.  I gave her a quick rinse and was putting new clothes on her to go play at the gym.   She fussed about the clothes I had selected because they did not match what Avery was wearing.   I looked through her closet and could not find anything blue that she could wear to match Avery.   So at my wits end I went through Avery's clothes finding a similar shirt in color and style and threw it on Sidney.  Gave her a pair of jeans and her tennis shoes and out the door we went.
Amy met me at the gym.   She came over to the main floor where I was working out with a puzzling look on her face.  What is Sidney wearing?   I told her my story of the 3 year old wanting to match her brother.  She said..."well her shirt is up to here.."   I replied... "Well her pants go up to here."   She was wearing a 24 month old shirt with  3 toddler pants!   The lady on the eliptical next to me started laughing.  Realizing she was over hearing our family drama, I explained to her that we have a 3 year old and a18 month old.   Amy went to class.   Five minutes later she was still snickering on her machine.
Come to find out.. Amy knows this lady from the classes she's been taking.   Made it even funnier!

10/16/2010 Time For An Update...

It's been a while since I've given an update... so here goes.

Sidney is doing well in pre-school for age ummm.. 3.    Progress note on Friday told us she is doing S in all categories.   She needs to improve her skills of putting on a sweater.   I don't think Sidney knows what a sweater is... we just put it on her this week when the temp went below 60!

Avery Jackson...  he is all boy!   And is learning quick from his older sister.  Though he has his feelings right there on the edge.   His latest funny is with Grandpa Clarke.   Grandpa Clarke can't hear the TV.  Especially when the family comes to visit.  So we got him some headphones that connect to the TV.   Sometimes when we are there he'll sneak in the living room... put on his headphones and we don't hear a peep from him unless we need him.   The other day.. Avery was talking to Grandpa Clarke.  But Grandpa Clarke had his headphones on.  Grandma Janet finally went over to Grandpa Clarke telling him that Avery had something to say to him.   Grandpa Clarke gave Avery a few minutes to mumble out what he was trying to say.  Right now it's jibberish but he wanted to say it and even more importantly for Grandpa to hear it!   So Grandma Janet showed Avery that when he needs Grandpa's attention to just hit his leg.   Now everytime Grandpa Clarke puts the headphones on... Avery runs over to him and slaps him!  It's pretty comical at the Clarke's house.

Amy...  she is doing well!   Work Work Work.. is all that she is about at the moment.  She is training one of the midwives this month and her call schedule is funky this month.   But this too shall pass!

Me?   I have new digs!   Starting October 25th.. I will be a UNIT SECRETARY for Labor & Delivery at St. Lukes Hospital.  You know the one that Amy works out of.   We look forward to this move because I need to be off on the weekends now that the kids are older.   I also want to get involved in our new church!
I want to meet new people and make friends!   The new job also comes better hours working 3 nights for 12 hours.   I can still be a stay-at -dad!

10/04/2010 Adventure in Austin...

So Amy took the kids to Austin for Julie's baby shower.   They were staying the weekend so Amy thought the best sleeping arrangements would be to put Sidney on the floor in the room with grandma and grandpa.  Amy took the blow up mattress and slept in the bonus room with Avery.   This would be the best scenerio for everyone to get sleep.   Everyone went to bed around 10pm.   Sidney woke grandma up at midnight stating that she rolled off her mat on the floor.  Grandma helped to get her settled and went back to bed.   Sidney then got up around 2am and got in bed with grandma and grandpa.  If you've ever been in the same house with Sidney asleep she talks in her sleep.. more of a loud groan.   She started this around 3am.  Amy got up to go to the restroom... came back to the bonus room to find her bed deflatted!   If you have one of these blow up beds you know you can't just put more air in without waking the whole house.   So Avery was the only one that got sleep!

Amy got called out of church because of Sidney.   Sidney had wet her pants, dress, clear into her boots.  Amy stripped her down as far as you can in church and sat with her in the back of church.   15 minutes later... Sidney was complaining of being cold!

I'm a very supportive husband.  Amy called me at work to tell me about this crazy weekend.   It wasn't until I was trying to tell this story to co-workers that I got so tickled trying to tell it!

I love you Amy.. and I'm sorry you had to sleep on the floor!

Tropical Storm Hermine

We ended up having over 10 inches of rain in a 24 hour period following this tropical storm.  Austin got over 15 inches.

10:24am update:
So far our area has only had light rain.  They are predicting anywhere from 2 inches to 10 inches of rain in some parts of San Antonio.

4:23am.. Maggie was begging to be let out this morning.   So I let her go into the backyard.  It was not raining.   Five mintes later she was begging to come in and the bottom fell out.   Looking at the radar we have more rain coming.   San Antonio meteorologist are saying we will have up to 5 inches of rain by Thursday.  At the moment this storm has formed an eye!

A Blog for Wednesday...

Avery went with me this morning to Sports Clips to get my haircut.   He sat in the floor and watched his Wiggles video without moving.   The staff and the rest of the customers were impressed with my incredible 16 month old.

We will have to go back when Avery gets ready for his first haircut!

Amy and I have our first parent orientation at Sidney's school tonight.   Guess you can call it our first PTO/A meeting.

08/21/2010 NO RAIN IN THE MONTH OF AUGUST!

What an unusual summer we have had here in San Antonio!  It is August and it has really just now started getting hot.   The kids go back to school on Monday and the high is 103.  This is FALL?  We've had no rain since July 27th.  But rain in the hill country has kept our water aquifers filled for drinking water and sprinklers.   Even the weather people here are shaking their heads.   They say we are getting a cold front next Friday... HIGH 93.

08/18/2010 Cover Up The LEDS In Your Life

We are now living in a world full of LEDS.   You buy a DVD Player and for whatever reason the light has to stay on to tell you it is in standby mode.   The baby monitors light up red or green depending on what noise levels they are detecting.   Each smoke detector in every room has a faint green light indicator.   The cordless telephone has a red or amber light just to let you know the phone is being charged.   If you have a security alarm most likely this control panel is in your master bedroom and it too gives off a green glow.  The cable box on the TV stand has a green indicator for connection... a red light for recording.. and a blue light for HD.  Then the alarm clock gives off it's green or red glow just to announce the time when you look at it.  I bought a small floor fan for the side of my bed... and it too has LEDS on the top to tell you the wind speed and temp settings.

I've taken control over the LEDS in my life.   And my secret weapon of choice was BLACK ELECTRICAL TAPE!   Cut off just the amount you need to cover up the LEDS.   You can block out almost 80% of all the night lights in your life and get better sleep at night.

08/18/2010 Our Freezer Got Unplugged...

Last week Amy was cutting the grass in the afternoon... I was watching the kids when I noticed the mower was not running anymore.   I opened the door and Amy yelled from the driveway..." I owe you an extension cord..."   She had cut it with the lawn edger.   I immediately checked the fuse box and told Amy I was shocked to see that she didn't blow any fuses.

Last night we were at the gym.   Amy asked me what I wanted for supper... and I told her we had pizza in the freezer.   When we got home I opened the freezer to notice everything in the freezer was spoiled.. and the smell was worse than anything I had ever smelled.   I sent Amy to the store.. put a DVD on for the kids and then I washed the freezer out!

Nothing in this world can resemble the smell of rotting meat with decaying strawberries.

After leaving the freezer open all night and letting baking soda do it's magic.   We woke this morning to a fresher garage closing the freezer to let it prepare for storing our future meals.

The freezer was still plugged into the wall socket.. however the wall socket has a fuse on the socket.   Once I found the spoiled food I noticed the light turned on where the plug goes into the socket.   I pushed in that button the light went off and the compressor on the freezer turned on.

I told Amy... we've been through a lot.. but we have never been through a freezer melt down before.   Frankly I don't want to do that again!

08/06/2010 Sidney's Funny

Sidney was eating supper with Grandma and Grandpa Clarke tonight. Sidney got up from the table telling Grandma Clarke that she was going to throw up. Grandma Clarke jumped up quick telling Sidney to stay on the tile... Sidney then let out a burp... told grandma that she felt better and continued eating.
